About the Role

The Deputy Chief Medical Officer (Deputy CMO) will serve as a strategic clinical leader across our federal health portfolio, translating clinical, technical and policy expertise into technology-enabled solutions that deliver measurable outcomes by design. This role encompasses clinical, health IT, policy, and change management to drive innovation across all federal agencies.

The Deputy CMO will partner closely with the Chief Medical Officer and account leads to leverage data and AI to create scalable solutions that deliver outcomes and return on investment. This position requires equal parts clinical acumen, technological fluency, strategic thinking, and change leadership-someone who can speak credibly to both clinicians, health policy personnel, technical teams, and executives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Client Engagement

- Serve as a trusted clinical advisor to federal health agency leaders

- Represent Accenture Federal Services as a federal healthcare clinical and innovation expert at executive forums and industry events

- Guide client teams on communications and coordination with federal health organizations and interagency initiatives

- Drive strategic perspectives on emerging healthcare delivery models, value-based care, and health equity initiatives

Business Development & Growth

- Lead subject matter expert support for client-focused campaigns and proposal efforts

- Identify major federal healthcare initiatives which Accenture to participate

- Develop and evaluate innovation partnerships and channels for federal healthcare solutions

- Contribute clinical and strategic input to win strategies, technical approaches, technology solutioning, and pricing discussions

- Build trusted advisor relationships with agency clinical, technical, and operational leadership

Thought Leadership & Brand Building

- Create compelling thought leadership to elevate Accenture Federal Services' federal health brand

- Author publications, blogs, whitepapers, and industry articles on healthcare reinvention

- Speak at health conferences and engage in panel discussions as an industry expert

- Develop point-of-view documents on evolving technologies, virtual care, AI in healthcare, and data utilization

- Position Accenture as a leader in healthcare reinvention and outcomes-based delivery

Delivery Excellence & Solution Innovation

- Maintain consistent project delivery engagement across health-related programs

- Ensure clinical and health outcome focus in all solution designs and implementations

- Evaluate and advise on clinical technologies for solutioning and client delivery

- Provide functional expertise for platform/product assessments

- Translate functional needs of healthcare staff, administrators, and patients into technical requirements

- Drive focus on the Quadruple Aim: improved patient experience, better population health, reduced costs, and enhanced clinician experience

Domain Expertise & Advisory

- Subject matter expert across multiple health domains including but not limited to:

- Electronic health records (EHR) modernization and interoperability

- Health IT deployment and associated change management

- Patient experience, engagement, and digital health adoption

- Population health management and clinical analytics

- Healthcare operations optimization and clinical workflow redesign

- Telehealth and virtual health expansion

- Health policy, regulatory compliance, and privacy

- Clinical decision support and AI/ML applications in healthcare

- Value-based care models and quality measurement

- Stay abreast of clinical, technical, regulatory, and legislative trends impacting federal healthcare

- Navigate DoD and VA-specific healthcare requirements and operational contexts

Talent & Community Development

- Support recruiting and retention of healthcare professional staff

- Build and lead a community of practice for clinical professionals

- Mentor and develop clinical talent for consulting roles

- Coordinate the use of external medical or healthcare expertise for engagements

- Contribute to workforce resilience, safety, and health initiatives for both Accenture and client teams

Innovation & Technology Leadership

- Champion the adoption of AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics

- Evaluate emerging health technologies and their applicability as was adjustment for federal healthcare challenges

- Drive interoperability initiatives and advancement of appropriate standards use

- Promote systems thinking and outcome focused, patient-centered care approaches

- Lead exploration of digital therapeutics, remote patient monitoring, and care coordination technologies

Required Qualifications

Clinical Credentials

- MD/DO or RN degree with current, active license required

- Minimum 6 years of clinical practice experience

- Physicians must maintain current Board Certification in their specialty

- Demonstrated commitment to continuous clinical learning and expanding technical knowledge

Federal Healthcare Experience

- Direct operational experience with a federal health agency required, with clinical experience in Military Health System and/or Veterans Affairs strongly preferred

- Deep understanding of federal health organizational structures, priorities, and challenges

- Knowledge of federal health policy, legislation, and regulatory environment

Technology & Innovation

- Proven experience leveraging technology to create and deliver healthcare solutions

- Demonstrated ability to translate clinical needs into technical requirements and solutions

- Understanding of health IT systems and ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences

- Experience with healthcare data, analytics, and clinical decision support systems

- Commitment to using technology, process, and policy to improve patient care and outcomes

Consulting & Business Skills

- Demonstrated success in proposal writing and business development

- Experience supporting or leading strategic initiatives in healthcare organizations

- Proven ability to influence without direct authority across matrixed organizations

- Track record of building consensus among diverse stakeholder groups

- Strong executive presence and ability to engage with senior government officials

Leadership & Communication

- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for both clinical and executive audiences

- Record of demonstrable success in executive strategic leadership

- Experience building, developing, and leading multidisciplinary teams

- Effective workforce communication, technical writing, and presentation skills

- Ability to manage ambiguity and drive clarity in complex environments

Preferred Qualifications

- EHR & Health IT: Experience with major federal EHR platforms (Oracle Health/Cerner Millennium, MHS GENESIS, VistA) and EHR modernization programs

- Clinical Informatics: Formal training or certification in clinical informatics (board certification, fellowship, or advanced degree)

- Operational & Deployed Medicine: Experience with healthcare delivery in operational, remote, or austere environments (military deployments, humanitarian assistance, disaster response)

- Regulatory Expertise: Deep understanding of risk management, accreditation (JCAHO, NCQA), and compliance requirements for federal healthcare

- Federal Acquisition Knowledge: Familiarity with federal procurement processes, contract vehicles, and FAR/DFAR

- Value-Based Care: Hands-on experience implementing or managing value-based care programs, quality measures, or alternative payment models

- Change Management: Formal training or certification in organizational change management methodologies

- Cybersecurity Awareness: Understanding of healthcare cybersecurity frameworks (NIST, FedRAMP, ATO processes)

- Cloud Platforms: Familiarity with cloud-based health IT platforms (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government)

- Agile/DevSecOps: Experience with modern software development and delivery approaches in healthcare or government settings
