Principal Associate, Cyber Risk & Analysis

As part of the Cyber organization, you will build, operate, and continuously evolve the tooling that keeps a threat landscape current for every enrolled asset in the enterprise portfolio. You won't just consume intelligence, you will design and implement the systems that produce it. You will serve as the subject matter expert bridging threat intelligence, security engineering, and AI-driven automation, delivering a capability that every security team in the enterprise depends on before they begin an assessment.

Roles and Responsibilities

- Design, build, and maintain the multi-agent AI profiling platform, including agent logic, orchestration, prompt pipelines, confidence scoring, and QA thresholds to ensure continuous and accurate threat profile generation across all enrolled assets.

- Maintain the persistent, queryable record of current and historical threat profiles; ensure data integrity, and compliance with audit and retention requirements.

- Build and evolve a portal and API capabilities, including asset search, delta views, compliance gap exports, delta subscriptions, and system integrations, to meet consuming team needs without requiring manual fulfillment.

- Own the operational health of coverage commitments, monitoring freshness windows across all asset tiers, identifying gaps, and driving remediation before SLAs are breached.

What You Will Bring

- Engineering Depth: The ability to build production-quality tooling; writing code, configure pipelines, and deploy features that security teams depend on at enterprise scale.

- AI/ML Fluency: Hands-on experience designing and operating AI agent workflows, including prompt engineering, multi-agent orchestration, output validation, and confidence-based QA gating.

- Threat Intelligence Expertise: Practical knowledge of how threat intelligence is structured, sourced, and operationalized.

- Security Breadth: Working knowledge across application security, cloud security, and compliance frameworks sufficient to conduct credible HITL review of platform and domain-level profiles.

Basic Qualification

- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification

- At least 3 years of experience in cybersecurity or information technology

- At least 2 years of experience in a hands-on security engineering, threat analysis, or security tooling role

- At least 2 years of experience building or operating automated security assessment or threat intelligence pipelines

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree

- 3+ years of experience in application security, cloud security, and/or threat intelligence engineering

- 3+ years of experience designing or operating AI/ML pipelines or multi-agent systems in a security context

- 2+ years experience with Databricks, Spark, or similar for security analytics.

- 2+ years of experience with cloud-native environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including IaC, APIs, containers, and CI/CD integration

- 2+ years of experience building self-service security portals or APIs consumed by engineering and security teams

- 2+ years of experience with MITRE ATT&CK, NIST CSF, PCI DSS, SOX ITGC, and FFIEC compliance frameworks

- 2+ years experience with graph tooling, threat intelligence platforms, or SIEM/SOAR integrations

- Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or AWS certifications

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $131,300 - $149,800 for Prin Assoc, Cyber Risk & Analysis

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
