Senior Software Engineer - ManagedDB Team
Location: Menlo Park, CA

The Snowflake Engineering team is a global team of high-performing engineers focused on building best-in-class tooling, automation, and a scalable infrastructure platform to power the Snowflake service. Our focus areas include Snowflake's global-scale multi-cloud infrastructure, core platform services, edge traffic delivery, and reliability engineering. We automate the deployment of the Snowflake production service across dozens of regions and all major cloud providers.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our ManagedDB Team in Menlo Park, CA.
ManagedDB team is responsible in large number of databases running in every Snowflake region across several public cloud providers. Our systems sit at the critical path of multiple external and internal systems including Snowflake UI, Service Discovery, Deployment Automation, CoCo and many others. Given the massive and constantly accelerating volumes of data flowing through Snowflake, this role presents significant opportunities to architect, scale, and innovate at high-throuput, low-latency critical database systems.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the ManagedDB Team, You Will:

- Architect & Scale: Lead the technical vision, design, and implementation of database products to suit internal needs.

- Drive Multi-Cloud Strategy: Create elegant, cloud-agnostic abstractions and software infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and GCP to ensure seamless management and rapid feature delivery.

- Technical Leadership: Drive complex, cross-functional engineering initiatives from inception to production, mentoring junior and mid-level engineers, and establishing software engineering best practices.

- Ensure High Availability & Security: Continuously harden our database infrastructure meet SLAs around uptime, security, and durability.

- Production Excellence: Participate in an on-call rotation, lead incident investigations for complex production issues, and direct blameless post-mortems to drive permanent systemic improvements.

- Collaborate Across Teams: Partner closely with Security, Infrastructure, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams to support new product capabilities at scale.

Our Ideal Candidate Will Have:

- Work Authorization: Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card holder).

- Education: BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent professional experience).

- Experience: 7-12 years of professional experience designing, building, operating, and scaling large-scale backend distributed systems in high-growth production environments.

- Core Systems Knowledge: Understanding of databases (PostgreSQL, Redis) and experience running large-scale distributed systems.

- Advanced Programming Proficiency: Strong hands-on coding experience in systems and application languages such as Go, Java, C++, or Rust.

- Public Cloud Mastery: Extensive experience architecting infrastructure on major public clouds (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including cloud networking constructs (e.g., VPC peering, PrivateLink, Transit Gateways).

- Infrastructure as Code & Automation: Proficient in automating global fleet deployment and configuration using tools like Terraform, Kubernetes, Ansible, or CloudFormation.

- Leadership & Influence: Proven track record of technical ownership, breaking down ambiguous problems into concrete roadmaps, and delivering high-impact projects across multiple engineering teams.
