At Inovalon, we believe that when our customers are successful in their missions, healthcare improves. Therefore, we focus on empowering them with data-driven solutions. And the momentum is building.

Together, as ONE Inovalon, we are a united force delivering solutions that address healthcare’s greatest needs. Through our mission-based culture of inclusion and innovation, our organization brings value not just to our customers, but to the millions of patients and members they serve.

Overview:

The Staff Software Engineer L5 works across all service aspects of high-throughput and multi-tenant systems, with the ability to design components carefully, handle errors properly, and deliver clean, well-factored code with strong test coverage and long-term maintainability. This role contributes directly to the ScriptMed Cloud Platform, Inovalon’s pharmacy foundation, working across the full stack in a .NET, SQL, JavaScript, and Angular environment hosted on Google Cloud Platform and Azure with Kubernetes-based infrastructure. This engineer drives excellence across distributed systems while serving as a hands-on technical leader and mentor within the team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Design and deliver distributed, microservices-based systems that are resilient, secure, and built to scale; develop and execute designs for complex systems backed by thorough engineering analysis and strong architectural judgment;

- Contribute to the ScriptMed Cloud Platform across the full stack, including backend .NET and SQL development, LINQ query optimization, and Angular-based frontend work;

- Build, maintain, and evolve microservices hosted on Google Cloud Platform and Azure using Kubernetes; apply cloud-native patterns to support platform reliability and scalability;

- Leverage observability and monitoring tools including Datadog, Grafana, and ELK Stack (Logstash) to create dashboards, configure alerting, and drive proactive platform health practices; support the organization’s transition toward Dynatrace as it matures;

- Raise the engineering bar on scale, resiliency, and security fundamentals through technical leadership; champion the infrastructure vision and serve as a subject matter expert in service reliability and sustainability;

- Design and scope small modules and features independently, breaking down complex work into well-defined, executable tasks;

- Discover, review, and influence design, architecture, and standards for building and delivering services; investigate and implement innovative technologies that expand Inovalon’s infrastructure through scalable and maintainable solutions;

- Develop, gather, and leverage metrics to manage complex computing systems; drive automation, performance improvements, and operational efficiency across the platform;

- Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders across Inovalon to understand requirements and maintain a tight, data-driven feedback loop; provide mentorship to onboarding team members and enable successful ramp-up;

- Handle PHI and PII data with the appropriate understanding of compliance requirements and data sensitivity standards;

- Participate in an on-call rotation to support critical issues outside standard business hours, ensuring timely response and resolution per defined SLAs;

- Adhere to all confidentiality, HIPAA, regulatory, and other such policies, procedures, and requirements as outlined within Employer’s Operating Policies and Procedures in all ways and at all times with respect to any aspect of the data handled or services rendered in the scope of work;

- Maintain compliance with Inovalon’s policies, procedures and mission statement, and fulfill those responsibilities and/or duties that may be reasonably provided by Inovalon for the purpose of achieving operational and financial success.

Job Requirements:

- Minimum 8 years of software development experience with a strong foundation in distributed systems, microservices architecture, and high-throughput platforms;

- Proficiency in C# and .NET required; hands-on SQL experience required including LINQ query development and optimization;

- Full-stack experience required; JavaScript and Angular for frontend development alongside .NET backend work;

- Experience deploying and managing microservices on Google Cloud Platform and/or Azure using Kubernetes;

- Familiarity with observability tooling including Datadog, Grafana, ELK Stack (Logstash), or comparable platforms; experience building dashboards and configuring alerting;

- Demonstrated experience designing and scoping discrete modules and features, breaking complex requirements into manageable, well-defined tasks;

- Understanding of PHI and PII data handling requirements in a regulated healthcare environment;

- Experience with or strong familiarity using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude as part of day-to-day development workflow;

- Strong architectural and system design judgment with a demonstrated track record of engineering excellence;

- Excellent troubleshooting skills with a persistent, methodical approach to complex technical problems;

- Strong communication skills; ability to collaborate across engineering teams and present technical decisions clearly.

Education:

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Technology required.
